Enjoy the fabulous Greenlandic west coast on board a vessel made for the voyage
– the Greenlandic M/V Ocean Nova. 9 days / 7 nights Departure from Copenhagen: September 5, 2011 The world discusses global warming and melting of polar ice. On board Albatros’ vessel Ocean Nova we follow the fresh tracks of scientists and politicians to the glaciers in the Disko Bay. The voyage brings us close to glaciers, icebergs, jagged mountain peaks, small settlements, and abundant whales and seals. To travel by sea is still the best way to experience Greenland, not least because there are no connecting roads inland. And it is along this thoroughfare where mountains meet the sea that you will experience the nature of Greenland at its best and biggest. The people of Greenland live along the coast and a tour to Greenland will always be a great cultural experience. Small settlements with colourful houses cling dramatically to the surrounding landscape, sheltered behind a cape or on the steep hillsides down to a fjord. The culture and architecture enriched and limited by nature. And if you move just a few minutes outside the town borders you will find yourself totally isolated and surrounded by one of the world’s last and biggest wilderness areas. |
Our ship M/V Ocean Nova was especially designed for operations in Greenland and was built in 1992 for scheduled services along the west coast. She was completely refitted in 2006 and now operates as a cruise ship with 43 comfortable outside cabins with private facilities, a restaurant with capacity to accommodate all guests at the same time, and a panorama lounge on the top deck where you can enjoy the fabulous, Greenlandic scenery float by. The vessel offers a relaxing atmosphere and a unique opportunity to meet fellow travellers from around the world.
With this ship we offer a unique cruise on the best possible route along the varied coast of West and North Greenland. Departing from Copenhagen on Air Greenland we arrive to Kangerlussuaq in West Greenland. After embarkation we head for Sisimiut and further to the small town of Qeqertarsuaq. The beautiful town of Uummannaq is our turning point in the far north. On the homebound voyage we will visit the calving glacier at Eqi, the town of Ilulissat with its famous Ice Fjord, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Our final destination is the settlement Sarfannguit with genuine Inuit hunting culture. Sights en route are the calving glaciers, the enormous icebergs, and the whales and seals playing on the surface of the sea. Four Zodiacs on board enable us to go ashore at small settlements. During our stays in the Greenlandic towns you will also have the opportunity to meet the hospitable Greenlanders and experience the unique Greenlandic culture evolved and surviving for thousands of years by adapting perfectly to the harsh Greenlandic conditions. | |
